About
DS with X shows that you can do data science in whatever language makes sense to you, by building each technique from scratch in languages old and new.
Libraries make data science easy to use and hard to understand. Writing k-means in COBOL or a regression in awk strips away the library and leaves only the idea, and seeing the same idea in many languages shows which parts are the math and which are just the language.
About the author
I started programming in the 7th grade, making shapes move across the screen from left to right. Through high school and college, I kept messing around with computers and programming languages. To me, each language is a different way to tell a computer what you want it to do.
So it seemed strange, once I got into industry and grad school, to hear people say things like "you can't use that for data science" or "you must use this to be taken seriously."
I'm building DS with X to show that yes, you can use this or that for data science. Whatever language you connect with, or that makes the most sense to you, is probably a language you can use for data science. That's why this site exists.
